RadioLab GAME
The Digital Educational Resource (RED) RadioLab is a management-style game aimed at mediating the learning of concepts, notions and contexts related to radiation phenomena and their origins in the area of Natural Sciences and Its Technologies.
The EM13CNT103 skill addressed in this RED involves knowledge about radiation and its origins to assess the potential and risks of its application in equipment for daily use, in health, in industry and in the generation of electricity.
In RadioLab a laboratory setting is used, in which the player receives radioactive stones that emit alpha, beta and gamma radiation particles. Each stone represents a radioisotope by means of a different color and shape. They shine as they emit radioactive particles and become opaque when the radiation decreases. Therefore, the player will move these stones containing radioactive elements to specific containment boxes (cardboard, aluminum, concrete + lead) until the radioactive emission decreases and it is possible to dispose of these materials.
RadioLab assists teachers and students in understanding and developing skills in the following concepts:
Radioactivity concept; Nature of radiation; Half Life Time; Radioactive waste; Shielding radioactive sources.
The game aims to engage high school students from all over Brazil in learning situations that make it possible to establish relationships with everyday situations.
