In Turkey, until the 19th century, architects were included in the Ottoman Empire Palace Organization as "sensitive architects" who produced public buildings under the management of "sermimar". This institution was responsible for determining the rules regarding the buildings and supervising the building activities. The design and implementation of buildings other than public buildings, such as houses, were carried out by "builders" affiliated with guilds. In the second half of the 19th century, it is seen that the historical organization of architects in the palace and in non-public areas was also dissolved within the westernization movements.

The Chamber of Architects, which carried out its activities with branches established in the three largest cities of the country, Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir until the 1980s, has branches in 21 provinces, Representative Offices in 79 cities and Chamber Representatives in 145 cities.
