Telanon (Test #9) APP
This Telanon(R) app runs in the background and automatically captures vehicle motion data. It is sent to the Telanon server and immediately deleted from the phone. At the server, it will be analyzed for accuracy.
Telanon is extremely privacy-protective. This app uses the phone's GPS, but does not collect locations from it or from any other source. Instead, it is time and speed each second from the GPS that is collected for analysis. Our privacy policy for this test is on the app itself. It is consistent with our full privacy policy which applies to our RateLoss app too, and is available via the link below.
Here is why we need each of the permissions required for the Telanon app:
INTERNET - to have Telanon server recognize the app and to transmit speed and time data from trips to it.
NETWORK STATE - to avoid draining the battery trying to communicate with the server when no Internet connection is available.
ACCESS FINE LOCATION - to gather speed data. We don't save or use the location, but the GPS data for fine location is where we get accurate speed and time.
