In Yaffa, a young child, my grandfather, was ill. After multiple doctors tried and failed to cure him, my great grandmother enlisted the help of a powerful witch. The witch used her knowledge of the sea, of spirits, of trees, of earth to heal him. Knowledge lost, sea longed for, spirits abandoned, trees chopped, and earth scorched since our Nakba.

Haunted real estate with displaced and displacing tenants, haunted villages with displaced and displacing peasants. What a haunted city Yafa must be. Not an old city, not a new city. What a haunted city Beirut must be. Not an old city, not a new city.
