Medtronic Labs Shruti is an innovative and sustainable ear care program. The purpose was to deliver sustainable, low-cost and affordable otology care. The program seeks to address an epidemic of hearing loss caused by chronic ear infections, a condition that affects 65-300 million patients globally, particularly in the developing world.

The purpose of the program also included awareness, screening, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the underserved population, particularly in densely populated, low-income urban settlements and rural areas of emerging markets by leveraging medical technology, telecommunication, and frugal innovation. The program is a hallmark example of system innovation, within the healthcare ecosystem, serving dual objects of social impact and business viability simultaneously.
