SafeDrivePod

This app helps you to avoid being distracted by your smart phone during driving. It can only be used in combination with a small device, the SafeDrivePod, that has to be mounted in your car (www.safedrivepod.com). The device monitors whether you're in the car and driving, when it is impossible to use the phone other than hands free calling. In addition, the SafeDrivePod can measure how well you drive. If you brake hard, accelerate hard or tear through corners, your score will drop. It is a good way to become aware of your driving style and improve it if necessary.

The app has to be running on your phone at all times and Bluetooth Low Energy has to be enabled at all times. The battery cost of the app, however, is minimal and hardly noticeable. When the app is not used correctly, by e.g. turning off Bluetooth, so that you can still use your phone in the car, this is reported to the server, where it is shown in a dashboard to which your fleet manager, lease company or insurance company could have access (depending on your contract).

When you are driving, the phone closes by overlaying a screen over the app that is currently active, unless it is your favorite navigation app. To know which app is being used in the foreground on your phone, we need a special permission (the so-called Accessibility API). It is important to know that we do not use this information for anything else, so it is not stored anywhere or given to third parties.
