Learn Ol Chiki

Ol Chiki is the alphabet for writing Santali Language. Ol Chiki script is also known as Ol Cemet'. It is the official writing system of Santali language in India and it is an Austroasiatic-Munda language, which has 30 letters. The forms of which are intended to evoke natural shape. Each letter depicts a word, usually depict the names of objects or action representing the pictorial shape of the script.

Santali language is mostly spoken in Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam and also in some part of Bangladesh. Here in this app we have tried to include all major scripts of all those locality.

The script is written from left to right. It occupies the Unicode range from U+1C50 to U+1C7F.

The Ol Chiki script was created by Pandit Raghunath Murmu in 1925 for the Santali language and publicized first in 1939.

The development of this app is the result of a request by Mr. Ramjit Tudu, a resident of Bhubaneswar Odisha of India. Being an Assamese, it was very much tough for me to understand the Santali language, the scripts and their pronunciation. It was Mr. Tudu who helped me and extended his support in the development process. So special thanks to Mr. Ramjit Tudu.

For pronunciation of Ol Chiki script, IPA method is adopted. Audios are collected from online sources. (All wrights of audios are reserved to publisher of audios.)
