Layata

Layata was built with two kinds of travellers in mind:
The first one is that person (we call a passenger) who is heading to or coming back from an upcountry destination within Uganda and is looking for a lift to their destination so they can get picked up and travel in a more comfortable way using private means and travel at their own schedule and time rather than be forced to travel at the departure schedule of upcountry buses in Uganda which are known to have fixed schedules.

The second person, whom we call a driver, is that person heading to or coming back from an upcountry destination in Uganda and will be driving there, but wants to save on fuel costs by carrying along other passengers provided they are willing to contribute to the fuel costs.

Both of these travelers are required to share their destination details such that they can see people they can travel with. For instance, a passenger who shares their destination will be able to see drivers heading towards their destination and request for lifts if they want to. In the same way, a driver who shares their destination details will be able to see travelers who are looking for lifts and offer lifts to those he or she wishes to.

Whenever a driver and passenger express mutual interest to travel with one another, we call it a match and say they have matched. In such an event, the app offers a chat feature which allows individuals who have matched to chat in order to plan the details of their trip. A driver can match with more than one passenger in the case where he has more than one available seat in his or her car. In the same way, a passenger may request for more than one seat, such as in the case where he or she wishes to travel with other friends on the same car.
Other features of the app include
1- The ability to cancel a trip and notify travel mate in the event of an unexpected event
2- The ability to rate a driver or passenger you have previously travelled with for the benefit of other people who may wish to travel with that people in future.
