FreeFuse transforms the online video experience for students by taking lectures and turning them into choosing your own adventure content. FreeFuse presents each lecture as an easy-to-understand visual tree where each branch is a segment of the video, and each node gives the viewer a choice between one or more segments. FreeFuse saves educators time by using AI to automatically segment lectures into the tree format which makes it easy to edit, change, and add new information. FreeFuse is a platform with 3 components: a content library, robust editing tools for storytellers to produce segmented video in this novel format, and live, transparent community interaction. FreeFuse presents each piece as an easy-to-understand visual tree in which each branch is a segment of the video, and each node gives the viewer a choice between one or more segments. The tree is an active navigation outline that lets the viewer jump anywhere, to any segment, at any time. Creators structure their video not as a single linear flow, but as a collection of linked topics, ideas, and concepts with supporting optional information. This segmented design makes it easy to edit, change, add new information or make corrections. We’ve found teachers respond to questions from students by adding new nodes and new segments to provide examples, illustrations, and references that improve the original lecture. We capture every click and share usage metrics openly on the platform. Rather than inferring viewer preferences based on “likes”, creators can see the actual usage of every segment and path. And of course, viewers can see what is popular.
