According to Gallup, 37% of American adults are afraid of walking alone at night near where they live. Nearly half of all women say they do not feel safe walking alone at night. Defens is a digitized version of a personal safety alarm, providing security at the touch of a button.

There are three main features of the app, which can be used when in a dangerous or unsafe situation. First is the personal safety alarm, which will activate a loud noise to attract the attention of bystanders and deter attackers. Second is the simulated conversation, in which the user can listen to a phone conversation and follow along, acting as if they are occupied so as to avoid uncomfortable situations. Lastly is the self-defense resource page, which the user can visit to learn more about personal defense tactics.

Location service and emergency call options will be available in version 2.0.
